Day 29 Blog
Well, the time has come to say good bye. It has been a pleasure having each and every one of you in my computer fundamentals class this term. This will be your last blog and I would like you to self-evaluate yourself in terms of your attitude and participation in the second half (Term 2) of this semester. The following criteria can be used as a guide:
0 - I did not participate and I had a very negative attitude
1 - 2 I participated very minimally and my attitude was negative
3 -4 I participated to the best of my ability only in the activities I chose to, I displayed a positive attitude only in these activities as well
5 - 6 I participated in most of the activities to the best of my ability, but struggled with a few of the assignments. My attitude remained positive throughout.
7 - 8 I participated in almost all of the activities, I had difficulty with 1 or 2 assignments, but my attitude remained positive
9- I tried my very best at all times, and had a consistently positive attitude.
10-I tried my very best at all times, and had a consistently positive attitude. I was a leader for my classmates.
Give yourself a score out of 10 and comment on the reason you deserve that mark. If you can support it, you will be granted the mark. Please comment to me on the one activity you especially liked about this class, that should remain as part of Semester 2 plan. Tell me one thing you would like to change, or one thing you would have liked to have done and did not have the chance. Take care.
Mrs. McBride

Day 28 Blog
Some interesting Cell phone facts for your information, please read and comment.
Did you know that two cell phones operating on either side of an egg will cook the egg and the same thing is happening to your brain and eyes when it's up next to your head?
Did you know you can dial 911 on a Cell phone for emergency service even if the phone is locked or not in service?
Did you know that for around $100 (sometimes less, sometimes up to $440), anyone can buy a list of everyone you've called from your cell phone for the last month. Sometimes they can also get your incoming calls and call locations, too.
Did you know cell phones are actually a radio -- an extremely sophisticated radio, but a radio nonetheless.
Did you know that up to 60% of the radiation emitted by a typical cell phone, (enough to cause heating), will be absorbed by the user’s head?
Did you know that different brands and models of phones have widely different levels of radiation emissions?

Comment on some of the following quotes regarding cell phone addictions:
One in six young adults could be addicted to their mobile phones, research suggests. A study of the mobile phone use of more than 100 students showed a large proportion exhibited symptoms more usually associated with compulsive gamblers.
Many were so attached to their mobile that they relied on it to lift their mood, resorted to lying about how much they used it and regularly borrowed money from friends and relatives to pay their bills. The symptoms could be even worse for younger teenagers than those studied.
While most of us are "addicted" to our mobiles, apparently some have it so bad that they're receiving treatment. Two children (ages 12 an 13) were admitted to a mental health clinic to cure what's been labeled as cellphone addiction. From the Telegraph:
They were brought in after spending an average of six hours a day on their phones, talking, texting or playing games.
Their parents became concerned that the children, aged 12 and 13, were unable to carry out normal activities without their handsets. They were failing at school and deceiving relatives in an attempt to obtain more money for phone cards.
According to the doctors on staff, it's the first time that a "specific" treatment has been used to cure mobile phone addiction. Then again, these are children who are 12 and 13. They seem a lot more like two kids distracted from their school work than strung-out junkies begging for quarters at the side of the road so that they can get their next fix.
"They both showed disturbed behaviour and this exhibited itself in failure at school. They both had serious difficulties leading normal lives."
Both children had had their own phones for 18 months and were not controlled by their parents.
"One paid for their phone by getting money from the grandmother and other family members, without explaining what they were going to do with it," said Dr Utgès.
At least two cases of phone addiction have been reported in Britain where young people who were obsessed with their phones and became depressed when the number of incoming calls or messages dropped.
