Day 15 Blog

Good Morning. Please comment on what you got out of the Heather Laxdal Symposium in the theatre on Tuesday. Include the "message" that you got from Alvin Law's motivational speech. What can you take from what he had to say and apply to everyday life?

It was a very interesting speech. But i found he kind of dragged it on a lot longer than he had to. I do think he has a great perspective of how to live life though. I like how he said to always to to look at positives even if it is a negative situation. He was also very commical, especially for an older guy.

I learned that you don't need all parts of your body to live a good life. that motivational speaker said alot about his life and that when going through a hard life always think positive and try again if you can't do it the first time, and get around all of obstacles.

Alvin Law is a awsome motivaonal speaker. He had alot of good points about everything. One thing that made me think about stuff was "The only enemy is yourself"
That struck something in my brain.
Its confusing to think of yourself as a enemy.Alan had lots of humor he was very funny by the end i didn't even notice or think about him having no arms.

Heather Laxdal i never knew but for someone to have a speech about them every year or so she must've had a large impact on everyone around her.She sounded like a really nice person. I think her Legacy will live on but it will always anybodys will.

Something interesting I found was that Alvin Law could do lots of things even though he had no arms. He could play the piano, the drums, and write, all with his feet. You could take that it is almost true that you can do almost anything if you set your mind to it. I could could put this in my life by trying my 100% best everytime I do something.

what i got from the Heather Laxdal symposium is that live every day like its your last because it just might be. The message that i got from Alvin's speech is that even though you have had a set back you can still move ahead just in a diffrent direction. Alvin is the kind of person that he never gives up even when he was set back and i think i could apply that to veryday life by doing the samelike if i get a bad grade i shouldn't give up i should try harder to next time to get a good grade.

I learned that Heather wanted everyone to be treated the same, and for peolpe to be nice to eachother. The message i got from Alvin was that you should live life the fullest no matter how you are. Be happy of who you are, and not be sad about the way you are. I can apply to how he said teenagers are stupid, cause i always think my parents don't no what im talking about, and yet they do all the time.

I may have not known Heather Laxdal but i do know that she was an amazing person. I know that she was a friend, daughter, and sister. I know that she passed away in saskatoon and she was a good person.
Alvin Law. Well Alvin Law is such a good speaker. He went to YRHS and he has no ARMS, for him it's not the end of the world, to him he is perfectly normal. He told us that we have live life to the fullest and to never put ourself down. He said that he was married and had a child. He said that comming to YRHS was an amzing place and that it opened doors for him. Alvin Law is a person like no other, he was given a drug that made him have no arms when born, but when you look past that, Alvin Law is an amazing person with an amzaing personality. Alvin was adopted.Alvin uses his feet for his hands. Most importantly is, if you ever met Alvin Law you would NEVER forget him .

What I got from the Heather Laxdal Symposium was that you should never have a negative attitude and you should try your best at every thing you do. It would be very hard to be a person like Heather Laxdal because she put so much effort into everything. The message that I got from Alvin Law's speech was that you should dream big and don't worry about what you don't have because if you don't worry about it you won't have a negative attitude. Some examples are: Once I had to send my cell phone away to get fixed and I was really worried but if I hadn't have worried about what I didn't have I didn't even care that I didn't have it. Another example is when I was little and I wanted to be an artist but now I don't dream big anymore but I should.

I thought that the Heather Laxdal presentation was really good for our minds because it taught us about what happened to heather laxdal and that we should be more safer in cars. The message that Alvin Law gave us was that you should live life no mater how you look. He was FUNNY!!!!!!!

I think that HEather Laxdal was an amazing person and a person that liked to be in mostly everything and lived her life the fullest. Even though i don't know her she was a good person. I think that Alvin did a good speech and his massage was to live your life to it's fullest. He tought us that we can do anything in life if we just try and never give up. He also told us to follow our dreams and not to let anything come in our way. I can take what he said and try to follow my dreams and let nothing get in my way.

What i learn't from the presentation is that Heather seamed very kind and always in need of helping others. What i learn't from Alvin is that you should never give up in your dreams follow them and never say i can't. I now really know how hard it is to be born with out any body parts, it is really a challenge in life to get threw all challenges that come in your way.

Well referring to Heather Laxdal.. If they're doing this every year, bringing her back in YRHS. She should be very very important to others and to this school.

Now about Alvin Law, i think his presentation was really important and touching. All the words he said was very meaningful. & The part when he said he asked his friends why they did that to him and they replyed because they love him.. To him i bet that was a big impact for someone to love him the way he is. He is very confident in what he does, and it's really good to hear that. Some people probably would want to die after all the stares and talks. Also for when he played the drums and piano with his feet is REALLY amazing, like WOW was i ever shocked he's a GREAT performer. He made me think of life in the positive way, and always be friendly to others. I really felt bad for the way he had to grow up though, but now knowing he's as normal and as strong as all of us put together!

The things that I learned from the Heather Laxdal Symposium are that you just need to have a posative attitude and just to live life to the fullest. I think that Heather had a lot of good qualities but that one is really the one that stood out the most, and that's why we have a ymposium for her every year.
Alvin was an amazing speaker, because he used comedy, examples, and he talked about things and included life stories. Some times it was hard to think that he had no arms, but once everyone got past that, they looked past his differencews and took what he had to say seriously.

Heather Laxdel from what I heard is a very outgoing and involved person. She was always helping around the school and was a great friend, daughter and person.
Alvin Law is a great person. Despite having no arms he still has a positive aspect on life. He lives each day to the fullest and makes people feel better in the process. I think that Alvin's message is that you shouldn't hold back who you really are because of a dissability or an inperfection but instead you should live each day to the fullest!

I think that alvin kinda went on a bit longer than he had to. I say that he has had a hard life alvin is a funny guy but he is some one that can relate to the students and he is not scared to say what ever he wants.

I think the presentation is very good and was very help Elvin told us about it doesn’t matter what you look like its what’s on the inside that really matter and even though he has no arms doesn’t mean he cant be the same as all of us. Elvin can do almost anything any other person can do witch really shows if you put your mind to it you really can accomplish something.

Alvin Law is an incredible individual. Though he has no arms, he has incredible ablitlies such as playing the drums, piano, and he is also an amazing motivational speaker. Although i was not at the presentation on Tuesday, I still feel as if I was. His main message is "You can overcome any disability you may have."

i think that what Alvin said was good because he told people that there are no limits and that you can do what ever you want, even if you have a handicapt.

I think that Alvin Law had great messages that he gave to us and he tells us how he still lives a normal life even though he is limited to the things he can do. He just had to find a different way to accomplish things.
I think that Heather Laxdal was a great person even though I never knew her I can tell she made a huge impact on this school.

What I got from the presentation was that you should always look on the brighter side of life and be thankful. Dont be jealous of what other people have because thats and dont go buy nice stuff just for the sake of it. Never judge someone by how they look, character is more important was also something he mentioned.

I found the Heather Laxdal Symposium extremely effective. I didn't get the chance to meet Heather, but she seems like she would've been someone I would've wanted to meet. I don't think it's fair at all that she died, especially so young. Atleast, she was happy and confident while she was alive and seemed to be an inspiration to others. Alvin Law's biggest message was live life to the fullest and Heather did exactly that, infact she's a good role model for anyone it seems. Another main message I got was be confident in yourself and don't change for anyone because there are going to be people that like/love you for who you are. Also, you don't need to buy fancy things just to be accepted because people who judge others for silly reasons are basically just dumb and if you try to change for them, then you are sinking down to their level. Just try to be confident in yourself and if you're not then make it so you are, but do it for yourself and NOT others.
