Day 18 Blog

Some interesting, useless facts for you to ponder! What do you think?

The typical laboratory mouse runs 2.5 miles per night on its treadmill.

A rat can last longer without water than a camel.

The mouse is the most common mammal in the US.

The elephant is the largest animal on land. But it is much smaller than the blue whale.

The SIBERIAN TIGER is the largest cat in the world. It weighs up to 300kg (660 lbs) and can eat 27,2 kg (60 lb) of meat at one mealtime.

The first kind of PENCIL was a bunch of GRAPHITE sticks held together by string.

Did you know that the average lead pencil can draw a line that is almost 35 miles long or you can write almost 50,000 words in English with just one pencil? Amazing fact!
Now imagine an eraser that could match it !!!
Someone decided it would be better to push the graphite into the inside of a hollow wooden stick.

Did you know there are two kinds of pandas? There is the Long-tailed Himalayan carnivore that looks like a raccoon and there is the Giant panda bear that lives in Western China.

It was the Romans who made the first popsicle. They took some ice and added flavour to it and then licked it. What a great idea! Yummy !

The Sumerians, who lived in the Middle East, invented the wheel in about 3450 BC.

The Sumerians also invented writing.

Did you know it was the Chinese who made the first wheelbarrow?

O.K.
random but some cool stuff in there.
They should make the eraser last as long as the pencil.

very strange facts i must say. i knew very little of them and some i thought were impossible...pretty much all i can say :)

i dont know what else to say? :)

Alright!
Very confusing but interesting specialy the popsicle! now i want one! haha!
its interesting to read all these random facts.

I new that the Summerians invented the wheel. We learned that in social studies with Mr.Folk.
I didn't know that a pencil can draw a line for 35 miles or write almost 50,000 words in English with only one pencil. That is pretty cool, I would try it but something tells me it would take a really long time.

Thats pretty cool how a pencil can write almost 50,000 words and how a laboratory mouse will run 2.5 miles per night! I didn't know any of these facts before and I found them very interesting.

i new that the siberian tiger was the largest cat in the wild because i was watching a documentry on them when i was a little kid. i learn't that a rat can last longer then a camel can with out water wich i think is kinda weird because camels walk through the dessert and rats live in cities.

There is alot of interesting fact in the day 18 Blog. I didn't really now any of them, the fact I found most interesting was that the mouse is the most common mammel in the US. I never new that but there must be alot scared americans down there to.

I didn't no that a Sieberian Tiger could eat 60 lbs of meat ay one meattime. I find that werid, cuz thats a alot of meat at one time! I had no clue that one pencil could draw a line of 35 miles long, and write about 50,000 words with one pencil, wow thaat is cool just how one pencil can do all of that, with it not running out!

I didn't know that the Romans took ice and added flavour and licked it. That is a smart idea. They could just be eating ice with flavour but the idea to do that, is smart. So now in our generation there are many diffrent sizes, shapes and colors of popcicles. Without the idea of putting ice and flavour together their would be no popsicle. A simple idea but very smart. So now when we lick or eat a popsicle we can think, wow what if popsicles were'nt invented? It would suck, cause they are very YUMMYYY! and a great way to enjoy something on a hot day.

A lot of these facts I had some knowledge about before, but I wouldn't been able to actually tell someone about it so thank you. (: Some of the facts I found most interesting were that a mouse runs 2.5 miles everyday on its treadmill. I mean that's incredibly insane, especially by how little there legs are. Also, 2.5 miles is pretty far and I thought animals had short attention spans? I guess not or really what else does the mouse have to do. Another fact I found interesting was that there are two different kinds of pandas, I have yet to see this giant one though. I'll put that on my bucket list I suppose. I also had no idea that the Romans invented the first popsicle and we're even learning about that in Social so I'm going to impress my teacher.. haha.

Ya... They are fun facts to know but are pretty useless... unless your on a game show and thay ask one of these questions. Who here knows that cockroaches can survive nuculear radiation and stuff like that? It can also live without as head for 7 days before it dies of starvation. A cockroach is one of the most resilient living things in the world. Woo Hoo! I know stuff too! Also, I always wondered who invented the wheel, and now I have my answer.

I thinks that's pretty cool that it runs that far because the animal is so small. That's wierd that the rat can last longer than a camel without water because camels live in the desert and they need water. I think that's right because there are so many mice around. that's cool and I think that you can fit like 50 elephants in a blue whale. I think I wouldn't want to get a Siberian Tiger mad. I don't know what to say about this one because I don't care. That's cool that they actually did see how fare you can write with one pencil. No I didn't know that there were more than one kind of panda. That's cool because I always thought that it was invented by the Canadians. That's cool I guess. Oh well that's interesting. No I didn't know that the Chinese invented the wheelbarrow.

the info thats it showed me
was very intresting but the mouse and rat thing was kinda tomuch but the other stuff was pretty cool
about the biggest animal and biggest cats that was pretty cool

Anonymous said...

wow thats pretty interesting but how does these facts help us in every day life?

Anonymous said...

HAHAHA....Those facts are probabally useless, and we will never really use them in everyday life, but I'm sure we could find them usefull at some point in our everyday life.

Anonymous said...

I didn't know pretty much all of these facts. I find the interesting. I didn't know that the Chinese made the first wheelbaroow and i find that interesting.

Anonymous said...

well they sure are useless facts but i guess some of them were ok. the one about the popsicle was ok and i didn't mind the one about the pencil or the siberean tiger.

I had no idea that rats could go longer than camels without water. How could a simple mouse run 2.5 miles per night. For that little of a creature it must have incredible stamina!!

Those are some really good facts i never would have thought about those things. It is amazing how people could invent things so uuseful.

This is pretty cool and after the work we were doing here it sort of came out of no where...but whatever. These facts are pretty sweet...I did not know a rat could go longer than a camel without water...weird...

Anonymous said...

I think some of these facts are useless because some of them don't really help us right now. For example, the Romans made the first popsicles, that is useless because some people dont even like popsicles. A useful fact would be that Obama is the new president of the U.S.A because it is recent news that everybody knows

Anonymous said...

I think that alot of those facts aren't really usefull but some where very intresting and about the rat onits treadmill runs 2.5m per day is amazing.

welll, i think it was pretty odd like, i like the panda one though that didn't seem much of a difference for me because i love panda's and i already knew it :) But all the other facts were intresting, relating to the Romans make popsicles was the best one! I gotta give them some credit for making popsicles :D everything else is pretty intresting and cool facts i say.
