Day 20 Blog
"29 000 convicted Sex Offenders were found on My Space in April of 2007". That is only a year and a half ago. How does that make you feel when using the internet? What are some safety precautions you should always take when talking to the "unknown". Has an incident ever happened to you where somebody turned out to be somebody other than who you originally thought?

It makes me feel kind of unsafe knowing that there are that many people doing that. You should always be careful when people start asking questions about you and stuff.I have not have a incident like this.
It makes me feel uncomfortable ,and if somebody starts to talk to you that you don't know I just block them, ignore them or exit off the site that I was on. Yes, it has happened to me when I think somebody is somebody but it turns out to be somebody else.
I do not care about sex offenders on the internet cause I do not talk to them on the computerbox.e
I do not have MySpace, but I do have Facebook. I can honestly say that this has never happened to me, but it is a bit shocking, It makes you think about who you add to your MySpace or Facebook. I personally never add people who i do not know or have never met.
I think that this is a very serious problem and everyone really needs to pay attention what websites and who people they talk to that the really don't know and that things do happen and don't think it won't. I Am really surprised on how many people are doing this
Well, I think if people have enough time to go onto the internet and creep around on children, teens, or even adults, they should really get a life.
Safety precautions:
You should always know what you are getting into before using the internet. If you are in a online chatroom or blog, you should never give out any personal information about yourslef, unless you are absolutly sure you are talking to someone you know. Although this has never happened to me, I know that I should never give out my address, name, or any other personal information to anyone online.
This dose not bother me very much because i do not use the internet very much unless i am at school. You should never let the unknown were you live your adress or your phone number. No an incedent like this has never happend to me!
welll knowing that is a little bit uncomfortable because even if i think i know someone i might not... i still feel pretty comfortable over all but it's definately something i will think about while on the internet. some safety precosions that i could take coulb be :
- don't go to websited that i don't know about and don't know if they are safe.
-make sure that if someone asks to be my friend on something such as facebook, that i know who they are and i make sure it's the right person.
- and just over all don't be stupid on the internet.
It makes me feel like there is alot of sick people out there and you just have to watch what you say to people and who you add to your profile.Don't start talking to people you don't know. Don't talk about personal feelings or about your life to people you don't Know. No nobody has done this to me but i have heard that people have had some trouble with this kind of stuff.
It doesn't really bother me because I don't do too much blogging. I think that you shouldn't put your full name or your address because people you are convicted sex criminals/petifiles can see that and come after you. You should only add people you know on MSN, Facebook, etc. Just because nothing has happened to you yet doesn't meen that you can be careless around the internet, because you never really know who you are talking to on the computer(unless they have a webcam)
Thank You for your time
Well, i don't really understand the " sex offenders " thing. but, ill comment back anyways [=
When you talk to the "unknown" i guess it is a little weoo, like you dont really know who you're talking to but, like i've done it before, i've talked to people online and i never met them, and i think you TELL if they're older or unreal.. just by the way they talk and the way they bring there symbols up such as " =]. >< . ^_^ "
Cus only kids like us would use that. Well i think it's easy to tell if they are someone else thats different from there picture.
there has always been, and will always be...Pedifiles.
hearing about that makes me feel unpleasent, disturbeb, and un-safe.
to keep yourself safe....DONT GIVE PERSONAL INFO ON THE INTERNET LIKE PHONE NUMBER, ADDRESS, HOME TOWN. they can track you from the slightest piece of information they can get.
i have never had an inccident like this...even tho i play virtual reallity games...i never put out anything personal
I think that this is a serious problem, and that people who go on websites should watch out with who they are talking to. This has never happened to me before, and probelly won't, cause i don't talk to people i don't no on the computer.

It makes me feel uncomfortable that people just try and add kids to their My Space that they don't even know. Some safety percautions awould be not to add just anyone but add people you know, never give away personal information or info that might help them to find you. No that has never happened to me but I know someone that that has happened to.
I think that is a shocking number, especially to think these are only people found on Myspace and that WERE convicted. It makes me feel very precautious when using the internet because I definitely want to stay safe and also makes me feel quite sick really. Like it's almost hard to believe that sick people actually exist out there. Some safety precautions you should always take when talking to the "unknown" are to not give any personal information out. I know it's said all the time, but obviously the message isn't getting out to people if this is still happening. Personally, I've never had an incident like this because I'm only on one site that is Facebook. I also don't add people unless they can tell me how I know them and I agree.
I think that when you go on the internet you got to be aware of the potential things you could get into on it. People should not go on websites that allow people to instant message each other or if they do come accross one they should exit out of it. I have not talked to someone I don't know on the internet because I only add people on msn and facebook that I know.
i dont really feel anything on this comment because nothing has happend to me on the internet and i dont think it ever will because when on the internet i dont give my real or full name and everyone i have on msn or facebook i have met in person.so i dont really have anything to say to this
I really think there are some sick people out there on the internet and people who are sex offenders and have a computer should be tracked by police on what they do on there computer. I really dont feel any different about being on a computer because i dont tell people I dont know who I am. You should never give away your email address to unknown people and dont give your personal details. Dont even talk about events near you place because they can and will find you using these details. I have nver had an incident like this.
It makes me feel more cautious, and that I should be more careful when using the internet. Some safety percautions are, just don't talk to someone that you don't know. If you do talk to an unknown person don't give them any personal ifnormation, or you can lie. No an incident never happened like this to me before.
After reading that, it kind of makes me unsure of a a safe place to be on the internet. You probably shouldn't give them your name right of the bat and look for some suspiciuos things that the person would say or talk about.I have never had one of these incident with one these sex offenders.
I don't really know what to say. All of those people are sick is the only thing that really comes to mind.
When ever I join a site like that (exept facebook) i use all my old info from back home so that if some one did try to find where i lived they would end up in Fort Mac. HAHA
This makes me think how different the world is today and how it is not safe for anything now a days. I don't have a my space page but i do have a facebook and i do not add anyone i do not know, and personally you should just be safe over the internet. Precautions you can take are dont talk to soemone you dont know. it's comman sense. overall, be safe on the internet.
Sex Offenders are stupid i think. I don't like when there creepy and all the time when they try to email me or such i delete it or report it to the site. It makes me feel were never really safe even in our own home using the internet. Saftey percautions should be don't give your real name it is safe when you give out like your favriote color like blue because theres alot of people who have the favriote color blue so they can't find you even if they really tryed. No one turned out to be somebody i didn't know.
