Each Hurricane is named alphabeticaly. There are many hurricane names that have been retired.IF the hurricane was really bad they would retire their names. The united states weather service first started naming hurricanes after woman and then started naming them with men names too.

Hurricanes are named from a list selected by the World Meteorological Organization. Each name on the list starts with a different letter. Every year hurricane are named in order from A to Z. Most of the hurricanes are named after girls names. By 1979, men's names were added in response to protest from women's groups.

It appears that Hurricanes are named from a list selected by the World Meteorologist Organization (WMO). Each hurricane starts with a different letter per season, like A for season 1, b for season 2...ect. In 1953, they named hurricanes after women. so six list have been made.............

I like cake, the way they pick names for hurricanes is wierd but it makes sense how they make them in alphabetical order. When they pick a name for one once it hits the name is retired and never used again.

After reading about hurricanes, I learned that they use a list to name each hurricane that is made up by the World Meteorological Organization. Although, they don't use the letters, Q, U, X, Y and Z because it's harder to come up with names. Also, after a memorable hurricane strikes they will retire it's name. I also learned that in 1953 they began naming hurricanes after woman (famous or not) and it was considered an honor. Finally, in 1979 men's names were added to the list because of protests by woman's groups.

Hurricanes get their names from lists. Every year there is a new list used to name these hurricanes. On the sixth year they will start over from the first list and cycle. But if a hurricane causes enough damage then the name will be retired and never used again.

I didnt really know that much about hurricanes only that nobody really likes them haha. But now I know that The United States Weather Service started naming them after women, after that they started to name some after men. Some names are Chris, Debby, Ernesto, Valerie, and William, and those are all from the year 2000.
I also learned that they name the hurricanes at the beginning of the season with A, then with a B, and it keeps going through the alphabet, but only the letters Q, U, X,Y and Z are not used. Well my names a hurricane... i guess thats sorta cool.

Hurricanes names are chosen from a list selected by the World Meterological Orginization. Every sixth year the list started over again. The name of the very first hurrican starts with an A and then B and so on. Also, the letters Q,U,X,Y,Z are not used. i learnt that they first started naming hurricanes with womens names until a womens protest gruop made them use mens names to. also if a hurricane causes great damage its name it retired and never used again. The idea of coming up with the names for hurricanes for the next six years is a good idea because if there is a hurricane i doubt that people are just gunna sit there and think of a name. i think 40 is alot of names to retire if the hurricane has to cause great damage to have its name retired.

Some different facts about hurricanes are:
1)hurricane names are chosen from the World Meteorological Organization.
2)after a very destructive hurricane hits they retire that name and dont use it again.
3)they started naming hurricanes in 1953 but only used womens names. then in 1979 they started adding mens names.
4)once the first storm hits in the new year, they start it with a A name of a new list. then every six years they use the lists over again.
5)since 1954 forty names have already been retired.

I never new that hurricanes names came from list, I always thought that someone randomly made them up. I learned that they pick from a list that changes every year for six years, how they retire names, and I didn't now how many names they go through every year. I looked for my name but the closest name is Danielle.

1.The name of the very first hurricane of the season starts with the letter A, the next starts with the letter B, and then C and ya it goes untill, the letters Q,U, X, Y and Z,but there not used cause lets face it , it's hard finding new names for those letters.

2.The U.S Weather Service first started naming hurricanes after women in 1953.

3.One list is used in one year. They have 6 lists they use over a six year period. Last time the names for 2000's storms was in 94.

4.Once a hurricane causes HUGE damage the name is retired. Some names won't ever be used again. So they replace the retired names with new ones eventually.

5.In 1954 40 names were retired.

Those are all new facts i learned today about hurricanes.

i learned that Hurricanes names are chosen from a list selected by the World Meteorological Organization. The first hurricane of the season starts with the letter A, the next starts with B, etc. The letters Q,U,X,Y and Z however are not used. Ofeten when an unusally destructive hurricane hit, that hurricane's name is retired and never used again.
The birth of a hurricane requires atleast three conditions. First, the ocean waters must be warm enough at the surface to put enough heat and moisture into the overlying atmosphere to provide the potenial fuel for the thermodynamic engine that hurricane beomes. Second, atmosphere moisture from sea water evaporation must combine with that heat and energy to form the powerful engine needed to propel a hurricane.Third, a wind pattern must be near the ocean surface to spirals air inward. Bands of thunderstorms form, allowing the air to warm further and rise higher into the atmospere. If the winds a these higher levels are relatively light, this structure can remain intact and grow stronger.

from what i know hurricans are chosen from a list selected by the World Meteorological Organization. The Atlantic is assigned six lists of names, with one list used each year. Every sixth year, the first list begins againvery first hurricane of the season starts with the letter A, the next starts with the letter B, and so onThe letters "Q", "U", "X", "Y" and "Z", however, are not used.that is what i know on how hurricans get there name J.Tootoosis
