Day 8 Blog

I have considered all of your input to our rubric for blogging. You will find a copy of it posted through the ComFun Wiki space. Click on the left sidebar of this blog page, click on the Com Fun 9 Docs page that is holding our word documents from this class. From now on, your blogs will be marked as a 4 - strong, 3 - proficient, 2 - developing, 1 - beginner, 0 non-existent. Thank you for your input.

First, make some comments about the Crime Stoppers presentation you saw in the theatre on Friday. How can you apply some of the information that was presented to your every day life?

Today you are going to watch a 10 minute clip from an Oprah show. The individual speaking brings motivation and spirit to his audience. After watching, comment (keeping in mind the new rubric) on the speaker's main motivating points.

The Crime Stopper presentation was wonderful! It gave me insight on all these crimes that always go on around us and that we should be more aware of what is going on and what is happening to us teens because overtime there are more over doses than suicides.

The main idea is childhood dreams and to acheive them before you die. When you are a child you have certain dreams and to obtain those dreams you need to go there and do that or you will not be able to acheive your goals.

i think the presintation was very interesting because i thought there was more people involved in criminal activity then just 2% of the population. some ways i could apply this information to my life are that if i no about a crime i could do something about it instead of just going on with my day.

i think that he is trying to say even when you are in a bad time in your life stay posative and just live life for what it is and have fun the most you can. he is also saying that if there is something wrong don't complain fix it and move on.

Crime Stoppers:
I thought the crime stoppers presentation was really important for people my age to see because it tells us how our world is becoming so caught up in drugs and alcohol. Most of the people my age are gonna be pressured to drink or do drugs at some point in our life and we need to know how carried away people get once they start. We also got a chance to see that crime stoppers is totally anonymous and people who call in and report something don't have to worry they will get beat up or something for doing that.
Oprah:
The main modivation the speaker gave were that you can try to achieve your dreams. He tells us that even though there are things that keep us form reaching our dreams, if we get through them that just shows us how bad we want them. He also tells us how to live our lives because if we live our life the right way the dreams will come to us.

I wasn't here for the Crime Stoppers presentation in the theatre. The motivational speaker on the Oprah show really inspires me, like when he said he got a couple rejection letters but it just kept him going, and to not let it stop you. Growing up I always rushed my art so it was always sloppy, and I kept getting bad grades and I hated it so I tried and tried until I finally stopped rushing and it paid off. Now I'm in a art class a grade ahead. I thought it was really great that he only wrote this lecture for his kids but it inspired so much other people. I also think it takes someone with a good heart to stand in front of millions of people and motivate them to keep going while he's dying, I know lot's of people wished they could have that type of power to help even when you can't be helped.

The main purpose for the crime stoppers presentation was to get students to stand up for each other. They said the main reason that people don't report the information they know is because they're scared. This is why crime stoppers was created, it's an anonymous and safe way to give tips about any crime. Also, if your tip was correct you will be given a cash reward. The thing that really stood out to me though, is that you can call crime stoppers even if someone you know is getting bullied and you think their safety is at risk. I thought crime stoppers was only for major crimes, but the presentation taught me otherwise.

I thought the speaker in this video was extremely effective and realistic. This is a man who's going to die soon, but instead of sitting at home being sad he is going around motivating people about how to achieve their childhood dreams. Some points that stood out to me were that the brick walls in life aren't that there to hold you back, they're there to prove how much you want something. He also talked a lot about not complaining, enjoying every part of life, and not giving up. If you want your dreams to happen you can't give up. It took this man fifteen years to finally work for disney, but he achieved his dream and that's what counts.

I like how he actually knew what he was talking about, because a lot of the time people are just reading off of a paper when they make a speach. he also let us know that it is all confidencial if you call crime stoppers. He also made sure to let us know it was all safe.

The guy on the Opra video was very insperational. He seemed like a very generouse man too because he did things like take a bunch of kids to disney land.

The Crime Stoppers presetaition talked about teenagers, drugs, school, and how people hurt by others. I think this has alot to do with todays life because all of this stuff happens in life today. Lots of people get really sad or even kill them self, because they get made fun of so bad by other people.

The speaker talked about how to live life as fully as you can, and not complain about how life sucks and about the bad things in life. He also talks about that he is dieing and he is living life the fullest he can until the end with.

I wasn't here for the presentation on friday.

To have a dream and try to achieve it. If you have a dream your not just gonna get it by sitting on the couch and watching the t.v you have to get up and go try to achieve your dream. Try and have fun all the time evenif it's something you dont like doing.
Work and play well with others.

During the Crime stoppers presentation I learn't that you should call if you know something is going on you should call, if something is wrong with you, you should call them, and that that kind of stuff happens in high scools and other schools.

The main motivating points in his speach were that he you should go for your childhood dreams, you should always have fun, and that you should respect others.

I thought that the things most important things he talked about were: the drugs and how you can get into serious trouble with them and the dealer, how binge drinking is very dangerous, and how bullying can lead to suicide or school shootings. I never want to do drugs in my life because they can hurt you badly, like a girl my mom knew did meth and it burned a hole in her intestine. Also, you can owe a lot of money if you dont pay it, the dealer will most likely do some nasty stuff to you.I really dont drink but i do like the taste of ice wine, but not beer. I agree with Serge, why would you drink somthing that disgusting just to be popular? Binge drinking is a thing that i think is stupid because youve got pretty high chances of dying of alcohol poisoning. I dont like bullys and its really sad what it can lead to. Recently there was a hold up in that regina high school, and then there was the shooting in a finland school on the same day. On youtube the guy that did the shooting in finland had some violent videos and some saying the humanity was cursed and stuff like that. I wonder if both these people were picked on at all? Then some people commit suicide and its caused by the bullys.
The man on the Oprah show was very fascinating because hes dying, and he acts like he doesnt care. Some things I thought motivating were to have fun, and dont complain, just try harder. I think that everyone should have fun whenever thay can just to get away from the hardships of life for awile. From skateboarding to writing, everone has to have a favorite hobby or sport. You just need that little bit of time evey day to make the day go easier. I sometime complain about stuff like dishes, but i guess i shouldn't because it just takes longer then. Just do the dishes, and then im done. Well then, I guess I should wrap this up, i written a lot down, probably more than I should have. Oh well...

The presenter had talked about many things. He talked about peer pressure and drinking and doing drugs. He showed video's with Serge a former drugie/alcholic. Serge's life had turned around after he stoped doing drugs and drinking. This presenter also said to call crime stopers, they dont track you down or have caller id. All they ask for is the imformation. Overall I thought the presentation was good, i learnt things i didnt how, and I learnt how to keep our community safe by calling crime stopers.

On the opra show the individual speaker was amazing. He only has a couple months to live but yet is full of life. He tells about his dreams and what motivates you, and to never give up on something. Also he said dreams do come true. He said to believe in yourself and believe in others. He is a good person he's not scared to die. Overall im sure he has touched many people and he is ok that he's dieing. He did that speech for manly 3 ppl. His childrem so when they grow up they can whatch it.

I thought the crime stoppers pesentation was very informative. The movie about serge, told us about how drugs and drinking will ruin your life. The columbine movie showed how people can hurt you to. but the main reason crime stoppers were there was to tell people to call them if you now anything about a crime.

The movie 10 minute movie clip was about, how you should live your life and that you should follow your childhood dreams. You should also be energetic.

I think that the Crime Stoppers presentation was very good i thought, he explaned alot of information about drugs, how to speak up, and not to be afriad to tell somone. He also explained that Crime Stoppers is a very good source to tell somone about a event that happened. He also showed us what drugs do and how they effect your life.

I think that he is trying to say is enjoy your life before it is over and make the most of it. He talks about how to get through life don't complain and just work harder at it. Try to accomplish your dreams and keep trying and trying.

The presentation was goodbecauseit toldme about what drugs and acahol can do to you. I can apply not drinking to my life. Randy thought me that you should just live life to the fullest and don't complain about the bad things in your life just like Jackie Robertson could not complain when people spit on him.

I think that the crime stopers pdresentation was good for our students in the school. I got that if someone you know is doing something bad that you should report it to the crime stopers and that the call is anominis, and a cash award.
To live your life how you want to not how other people want you to. to live your life dreams and never giv up. Not to complain and work harder.

I think that you have to be aware of what could happen if you get involved with something bad and you should know that you can call Crime Stoppers

I think that you should always treat people good not if you are about to die or something like that. Randy made the point of treating people properly and respectfully and always have dreams because if you work hard enough you might actually get them.

That if you see, or know of something bad thats going on you should contact an athourity or someone that you trust. Don't be afraid that someone will find out that you told the crime stoppers because the hot line is 100% anonymous. The main message in this I think is don't give up on life no matter how hard it may get, play hard and work even harder. Randy was enthousiastic even though he knew that he only had a few months to live, he was just as strong as the rest of us mentally and phycally.

The Crime stoppers presentation was really intresting. I enjoyed watching it but the parts when they showed you what would happen to you is completely INSANE.I'm like more caution for that more these days. I can apply the information by letting other people know what can happen to you & such.

The video i just watch some lots of meaning to it, i felt that his words were strong and had lots of potential. Everything he said was pretty much true, you should always have fun and enjoy your life in every way! To me, his words really touched me. Yeah, it sounds corny but it really did. It show lots of sincereness from him, and how much life is great in its own way, if you go the RIGHT path =)I really liked the video.

I think the Crime Stoppers presentation was really educational because he explained some situations that happen in an every day situation. I am very affected in this because some people really get on my nerves and i feel like blowing up, but i FINALLY learned how to control my anger and push it towards something else and not on my friends.

When Randy Pausch gave that speech on Oprah i could relate to alot of the things like childhood dreams because i want to make it into the MLB or in the NFL. I really thought that was a great speech because he made lots of sense, and he showed people how they should live their lives. Even though it is a shame that he has cancer, he still lives each day to his fullest. When he does pass away, people will remember him for never giving up.

>By watching the presentation on Friday, I learned that you can't always be safe. Well, I think everyone knows that not everything is safe, but it really opened my eyes to see that there's always something you can do to help.

>I completely agree with Randy. Every word of his lecture just makes sense. If you want something bad enough, do what ever it takes to get it! Don't let anything stand in your way.

The presentation that we had on Friday was a good presentation. It gave us more to think about when we see crime happening, and what to do about it. I also like the fact that crime stoppers is confidential, so no one would know you were the one calling. It would be helpful for me if I saw something illegal going on,and even if it isn't illegal, no one would know it was me so I wouldn'y be in any danger.
Randy made some really good points. I really don't think whining gets you anywhere. I could apply this to my own life because I do complain a lot about things, so if I stopped complaining I can get a lot further. All of the things he said were true, but I took the complainingone to be my most important.

Some ways that I can apply this presentation into my life is to know what to do if something were to happen to me,to know what to do if I see something against the law,and also what to do if I even had the suspician that something bad was going to happen.

after watching the Oprah presentation and have heard the story of Randy, I have found some motivating points. First of all is to always have fun and live life as much as you can. I also find his attitude very inspiring because even though he knew he was about to die, it didn't change his attitude towards life.

I think the presantation showed us kids that you don't have to be like everyone else and do what they do. Be yourself and don't do all of those nasty things. I really think that you can use this in your every day life all you have to do is just don't get hooked or fall into some of these nasty things. Just be and stay yourself. I think that Randy really Knows what he is talking about. He said if you live your life you will find your dreams. I think you can really follow his information in your life because it doesn't matter if you are going to die or if you are Jackie robinson getting spit on, don't worry about this just live your life and always belive in yourself.

I think that the crime stoppers presentation was a interesting presentation. I learned alot about the crimes and bullying and other things. I can apply some of the information from this presentation to my every day life by helping people that are being bullied and can stop people from bullying.

I think Randy did a good speech. He tells us that we should follow our dreams and never give up. You should live your life at its fullest and have fun all the time.He tells us that he is going to die in afew months and says he is going to have whil he can.

Maybe everyone commented almost the same. Im not saying everyone copied and pasted im saying we have all the same ideas does anybody know why that is?

The comment that stood out to me the most was Brett's comment not because its long its because he has not so much "I THINKS" I like the way he made his second paragraph about Oprah.

good job!

the crime stoppers was 100% true. It was interesting to watch and to listen. I now understand more about the bullying, and how many people are scared... BULLIES ARE COWARDS!

Randy did a good presentation, ist sad that hes not gunna be here much longer, but yah, he said that we should all follow are dreams and never give up through anything.
