Day 10 Blog
After reading last day's posts, some good relationships were made between playing video games and an addiction to speed. Obviously the physical signs and symptoms are not the same, but some of you could relate to the "addiction" as well as the "good feeling" you get while playing the games. Consider this: "Cyberaddiction is developed through the use of the computer. Let's specify that it is not the computer we are addicted to; rather we are addicted to the experience we have because of the machine...In the same way drugs and alcohol can be , the computer becomes a way to escape reality, deny problems, or forget about them by devoting time to something else." (Jean-Pierre Rochon, Internet Addiction psychologist). Comment on this psychologist's research.

I think the "Cyberaddiction is devrloped by the rush of the game and how good you get at the game." I think drugs could really get you messed up when you are playing a game and I think alchohol could too but not as bad as to drugs. I really think that lots of people play games lots because they want to forget something or someone.
I think tylers blog was a beginer blog because it was so short and doesn't make sence.
I think a computer addiction is way better. I think its better because i wouldn't want to get in to all that crap and you would spend all of your on it, and you could die from it to, if you do to much of that stuff.

I don't think it's the same kind of problem but it is a problem. You always hear about wierd stories like people Using the internet for things like identitiy theft or pretending to be some one they aren't but never meet anyone who has actually had that problem. This "cyberaddiction" to me, seems like something that can be cured more easily than other addictions. I highly doubt they would have to live their lives by the 12 steps every day to recover. And they also don't have groups like Cyber-Addiction-Anonymous....as far as i know.
I think that even though the computer may not be thought of as an "addiction" it is. An addiction is an obsession or dependance on something, such as drugs and alcohol or even computers. Of course the the consequences are different, but some are also the same. Many people go on the internet to escape their life because on the internet you can be anyone you want to be. You can reinvent yourself and that appeals to many people, but some people get carried away. They start giving out too much information, or bad-mouthing others on the internet, making fake profiles, etc. So don't think that there are no consequences with becoming addicted to the computer. For some it may not be that bad, but it's your job to not let it become that.
I think the psychologist is right because people do go on there and get addicted to the different kinds of programs on there. Like if someone who doesn't have many people they can talk to in real life they can go in a chat room and talk to alot of people. If people really don't like their life or the people in it they could go on the internet and make up a new person and pretent that that is who they are. People do get carried away by the amount of time they are spending on the computer and they can miss the things they have already said they would do.
The addiction to the use of internet and computers sound pretty bad. I don't have an addiction to computers because I don't go on them that much, but some people could get addicted to them just like alcohol or drugs because they want to devote time to someththing other then there life. Like when times in your life get bad with family or something.
I think that people can get addicted to computers, but its more of a psychological thing. Though I think that more people get addicted to the video games on the computer and things get out of hand. I once read a article on the internet that somewhere in the world (I forgot where!) that two parents were charged with child neglect because they were addicted to a online roleplaying game World of Warcraft. I also have watched a show on some people that had internet addiction problems and one person was addicted to online poker and lost a bunch of money. I have to say that I do use the computer to escape this world fora while but not totally ignore life, just something to distract me for a while. I think that neither subtance addictions or internet problems are good, but the better one between the two is internet problem because even though you are killing brain cells and not getting exercise, your not getting all those chemicals in your body. But that doesnt mean that internet addictions are good either because you will lose touch with family, sometimes you get hungry but ignore it, and ou just don't get enough exercise.
It only depends i think on the game like drugs they do currtain things not all on the outside though people get feelings and may get dizzy durring using them.
Video games are different there are war games and things they can be addicting but not as addicting as a drug can be.

Sure, you can get an addiction. In the world today there is so much technoligy and everyone around the world uses computers. Some not so much but some LOTS. What if someone was addicted to the computer? to me, they would not have a life. Sure, technoligy is fun to use and have but to a certain point. Comparing drugs/alcohol to "addiction" of the computer is 50/50. I think this because they can both mess up your life. A computer may mess up your life beacuse you would say on it for hours and hours. Spending little or no time on others or things that should be done istead of sitting on the computer. Also, using drugs and drinking alcohol may mess up your life beacause you would spent all your time drinking or getting high. To me drinking is good to a certain point, spending time on the computer to a certain point and getting high well that's just bad, but that's not the point. The point is that you can become addicted to either drugs alcohol or the computer.
I tihnk that computers is better than doing alcohol and drugs because with alchohol and drugs u can die of alcohol poisening and you can overdose on the drug you take and die also. With computers you can still know what is going on in the world and you can still talk to people.
that reasurch is right and wrong, i beleive. Video Games are addictive especially if there long, and ur good at it. but drugs are different, you can stop playing the video game when its out of time, but you cant stop drugs when ur out of the material! DRUGS, you want more, VIDEO GAMES, you get bored!
I think that he is right about this. People get addicted to one game or somethin and once they start playing and start getting good at the game they want to play it more and more. Peoplebecome addicted because they do things and try to get rid of their problems, like people on drugs. I think it would be better if people were addicted to computers then to drugs because people will die from drugs and alchol and when you plays games you wont die. Playing games on the computer is also alot cheaper than buying drugs and alchol.
The computer is addictive because the of go on the computer because they have nothing else to do and scince they go on the computer alot they get a addicted.
I think that it is a bad thing if you are adcicted to a computer game mostly becuase of the time it consumes. When you play a computer game to get out of the real world and don't worrie whats happening effects what u accomplish in the real world.
I think this is ture because lots of people usually go on computers to relax.
I think that it is possible for people to get hooked on the feeling the computer gives us. In some cases, it's to play games, but in others its a way to escape real life. Being addicted to the computer is still way better then becoming addicted to illegal drugs. Bu tunlike the physical addiction to drugs, computer addiction could all just be psychological.
i agree that video games and computers are addictive and can take up alot of time.... even though it is an addiction, as long as you don't spend all of your time and effort on just the computer, it is a better addiction than doing drugs.
yes i do belive that it could be a way to put your problems behind you.I also belive that playing video games and going on computers is way beter for you than doing drugs and achohol.People can die from doing drugs and achohol and they can not die frome computers.
I think the computer, drugs and alchol is all similar. But, in a way it isnt. Well first off, i go on computer lots and thats pretty much what i do when i get bored of something, like i get bored really EASY. But, while i`m on the computer i`m not as bored as before. It's just i dont start a thing where i'm someone else. It's either i'm on my OWN facebook, msn, or doing some research. Alchol & Drugs can be the same some people could be addicted to it, and some could control themselves. I guess it could mess up your life, but hardly. I strongly believe that it is a way to forget your problems, but the computer doesn't really help. It's more like alchol & drugs doing there thing.
I totally agree with that i think that people doing this stuff really do get addicted and keep on doing it to take away there problems and feelings in there life. When they are doing these things they think of all the positive things ahead of them, not the negative.
I think that yes, you can be addicted to the computer. I'm pretty sure everyone has been addicted to a certain game, website, or anything on the computer at some point in their lives. Its the same as drugs or alcohol, the first time isn't so great, but once you get using them, you get addicted. Of course the consequences are not the same as using drugs, alcohol or harming your body, but you still get addicted. I personaly think that using the computer is a privlege, and it should not be used as something other than a resource.
I believe that being addicted to a computer is way better than being addicted to drugs. If you are addicted to a computer than you may loose your grip on reality and start to have no friends in real life. I think that drugs are just bad to get involved in because they just completely mess up your life. In conclusion, I believe that being addicted to computers is bad but being addicted to drugs is way worse.
i think that a cyberaddiction is saying a little too much because some people have to be on the computer all the time for work or some people just go on the computer when they are home to find a place to go.
