Day 4 Blog
"Kids see more than 250 000 commercials aimed at their appearance by age 17". How do you think this may affect how kids feel about themselves? Do you think it may affect some kids' self-esteem and self-confidence? What do you see as the worst case scenario as to the results of some of these commercials for kids who are affected by them? Let me know how commercials of this nature make you feel.

Commercials have never made me feel any different my entire life but i could understand why they could lower some ones self asteem.
I think that this will make kids think that they are not good enough. Kids self asteem will go down and their confidence will follow. In the worst case scenario kids will be bullied for not wearing the "cool" clothes and get depressed.I dont really pay attention to these commercials.
I think this effects the kids by thinking there to fat or there to skinny so the kids think they will be skinny.Thats why these commercials shouldn't be played.
i personaly think it may affect kids depending on what type of commercails they see. If they see alot about how to boost your confidence then they may become more confident. If they see commercials that tell them they need to do this or that before they can become popular they end up ruining their life.
I think these commercials would make kids feel like they aren't good looking or that they are fat. This would really hurt their self-esteem because everywhere they would go, they would be self-conscious about themselves. These commercials don't make me self-conscious cause you just have to know, they are saying it to make you self-conscious and to buy their product.
I think that these comercials would make them feel self concious about there weight or other things. Yes i think that they do lower some childrens self-esteem and self-confidence. As a worst case scenario i think that some people might commit suicide because of them. These commercials do not affect me.
I think this affects kids because they always want to be the best so they willtry there hardest to look like the people who are telling them to be skinny and beautiful. It will probably affect some kids self esteem and some kids confidence because they wont think they are beautiful anymore. The worst case scenario would probably be for the girls or guys to go anerexic, or bulemic. This makes me feel sorry for the people who get affected by this.
This will make kids feel very self conscious. Their self esteem will be very low as well as their self confidence. The worst case senario in this case is that the children will go into anorexia, bulimia or even depression. I dont think that a commercial wich can trigger these mental illnesses should be played, i dont care if it can sell your product, it can kill children and young adults.
I think that seeing this many commercials aimed at a teen’s body and mind could change their appearance of themselves, life, friends, and family. They could also change a teen’s self-esteem and self-confidence by making them feel unsocial, or unpopular. The worst thing commercials can do to a person is change who they are. They cover up there blemishes and become a new person to try and fit the persona put out by the media.
I think this many commercials aimed at a teens appearance could substantially affect the teen as they move into adulthood. I think if the commercial companies want to sell there products they should direct it to adults. That way the adults can handle the situations better and in most cases not even care what the commercial says.
I think these commercials of self-image effect hiw many kids feel about themselves. Most commercials say things about how you should look and what you need to look that way. Kids will do anything to fit in so when someone hears that they don't look a certain way they try their hardest to fit in. These commercials can do alot of damage. These commercials have effected me because I am not a skinny peron and these commercials make me feel like I should be.
I think this may make kids feel like they are fat or unfit because all the people they use on the commercials are super models. It also will probably lower their self confidence and self esteem because they think they are fat. If kids start thinking that they are fat they might become anorexic or bulimic. I don’t think these commercials are good because of these reasons.
some times it makes kids feel that there not pritty makes them want to change your look some kids would even kill them self because they dont think pritty.
i dont care about thoughs commercials they dont make me feel different.
A kids is greatly affected by the commercials because they dont understand why they dont look like the projections the the ad company shows. A kids self-esteem would be changed because feel bad about themselves and how they look. The worse case scenario is that the kid becomes anerexic or turns emo. I'm not bothered by the commercials that much cause i understand what their trying to to and I fine with being me.
I think commercials that affect kids apperance aren't good because they make us think that we should look perfect and we don't. These commercials make kids feel like they are ugly or not normal. I think it affects many people all over the world maybe even some adults. I think a worst case senario as the result of some of these commercials could possibly be suicide. These commercials ruin our self confidence and self esteem.
I think this affects the kids by shwoing them the things in life that commercials broadcast. Yes, I think that it affects the kids self-esteem and self-confidence by the commercials of "Bulling" or the "Kids help Phone". I think the worst case scenario is for kids affected, to get depression or even in some cases suicidal acts. Commercials in my nature dont really effect me.
I think it may make some kids feel less about themselves and just want to buy all the stuff they see on TV so they can look as good as the people in the commercial. I think it could affect them because, they might see how good the people look in the commercial and wish they looked that good and just thought less of them cause they didn't look as good as some people. They may not do anything and just try to look better before they do anything. Commercials don't make me feel any different.
I think that it might affect some kids by like the stop bullying and stand up commercials help kids see that bullying is bad and it huts kid's feeling. And other commercial are like the perfect models on tv that acctually are changed bad like the computer takes the picture and fixs their chin's or their neck ect. but in reality nobody looks like that
Kristine
I think these commercials make kids and teen insecure of themselves because they are seeing everyone that is on commercials prettier and they might have added special effects. It might affect their self esteem because these people on commercials are most likely not overweight and if the viewer is they might be offenced over a period of time.
I think this makes kids feel that they arent good enough or they are imperfect. I do think it may affect their self-esteem and self-confidence. The worst case scenario would kids might start starving themselves just to look like those perfect models on the commercials. Personally, I do not pay attention to that. They arent real. There is alot of computer editing programs that make it all seem perfect. In reality, nobody is that "perfect".
It might make them feel like they aren't doing the right thing and then quit, ex: a kid who is doing drugs sees a drug commercial sees what it could do and turns away from it. Yes it could affect some kids confidence but it could be for the better. A teenager who has emotional problems (like cutting) and does drugs, he\she sees a commercial on drugs, then they get mad at them selves and possibly commit suicide. They make me feel uncomfortable.
I think it might affect peoples appearance and what there style should be. Also it affects your self-esteem if you really look at the people and catch on to the commercial. These commercials are the reason why people go through all this trouble to look "good".
The people in the commercials that seem to be so perfect really shouldn't make you feel bad. They are probably not very comfortable because they have to go through alot more things to maintain that body. The best body is a healthy body. It makes me think of how much stress some people have in their lives that is not necessary. Kids are probably affected by this because they think they arent good enough. In worst case scenario they would probably only try to eat less or maybe healthier which can be a good thing.
I agree with alot of these people, they make alot of sense. we've all seen commercials like that and farley, kinda hate them. they make us look like we are not good enough for the world, we gotta look perfect, if we are goin to fit in, like we have to, yet we all have our own style, T.v is all about looks, they pretty much put us down by making us look at how perfect they look, and seeing that could maybe cause problems, stress, depression and eating disorders, could even cause suicide...... no joke, from to much pressure of trying to look good
In my opinion teenagers can really ruin or boost up there life. They may see many commercials that make you feel good about yourself and boost your self-confidence. But when it comes to the commercials saying to be skinnier because your too fat or things like that, it can really ruin someones life by making them feel bad about them selves. It may even come to somebody committing suicide because of all the pressure they take in life of not feeling wanted. It can really lower your self-esteem and i think that there shouldnt be so many of these commercials.
I think they feel like they have to look like that and that there not good enough. Some people it may because they might feel like there not perfect but nobodys perfect. I think that the people will try and be like those people on the commercials when in reality the people probably dont look as perfect as they seem.
If a person thinks he is fat for some reason, and a commercial comes on with a person with the perfect body shape, this may put the boy down in some way because it will make him look like he is fat when he might not even be. People shouldn't show these comemercials for that reason. It effects everyone watching.
I think that some commercials effect ones life because the people in these commercials might have have the perfect body and some people are hurt because they wish they were like that too. these commercials never effected my life and they probably never will.
I think this could affect people because they look at the people on the commercials and they think they want to be just like them, but they cant. They look at the commercials and almost every commercial they see the people in it are skinny, and they may not be. I think people should just try to be themselves and not someone else.
I can see why it could lower someones self esteem. I think it affects kids beacuse the person that is on the commercial has the perfect hair and everything else so prefect, and some kids are probally thinking if i do what they are doing maybr i could look like them. I think the worst case scenario is that some kids might being to think why doesnt my body look like that and then thye would go and try to change their apearence. No commercial has ever affected me.
I think that these commercials do make people bad about themselves. I think that it would affect some kids self-esteem and there self-confidence and then they would want to be as good as thoughs in the commercials. These commercials dont affect me.
I think these commercials affect kids and teens and there appearance and there choice of style and for those who dont have it might feel bad about and start to lose self-esteem.
I think this affects how kids feel about themselves beacuse some kids when they see these commericals they think that they are to fat or not beautiful enough. I do think it will affect the kids self-esteem and confidence because there confidence well go down when they see these commericals because they wont think there beautiful anymore or they will think there to fat. the worst case scenario is that some kids will end up being aneracix. commericals if this nature make me feel no different.
People in tv commercials tend to look alomost perfect. They have the perfaect hair, clothes and even face. This tends to make kids feel bad about themselves because there not good enough. This does affect some people's self-esteem and make them choose bad decisions. They will go to the extremes trying to look loke them. This can lead to annerexia or working out too much. Watching tv, I don't think about this at all. I know there models and actors and there trying to sell the product.
i think that commercials only take the right people like right height, there weight, there looks and i think that is very wrong. i think the a lot of people think that there not good enugh for a tv commercials. so they think there not good enough for life so they well go in a slump about how the look, how they act, how they eat, what they wear, etc
i think kids get depressed and feel bad about thier appearance. Yes i think it does affect some kids self-esteem and confidence because they think thier not good enough that noone wont like them if they dont buy that product, or they feel unworthy and upset.I think the worst case senario is kids get deprssed and kill themselves, i knew this one girl in my old school noone was nice to her and they bullied her and told her that she was'nt pretty, so she went home and cut up her face and wrote in blod in the mirror "am i pretty enough now". So i feel sorry for anyone with low self-esteem Personaaly i dont care and i dont watch much tv either.
I think that some commercials do lower some peoples self-esteem and self-confidence. The commercials make kids want to look like the people on the commercials because they always look good and are having fun. worst case scenario the kids will get worried about there image while they are still kids.
The images that the media portrays are not true to the viewers because they make the veiwers want to look "perfect" which is to be skinny and/or beutiful/handsome. I think that this would affect some kids' self-esteem because they dont look like that. What I see as the worst case scenario as a result of some of these commercials would be starvation because everyone should be liked for who they are not who the become because of media. The people on these commercials are fairly pretty to me but they do not have to wear skimpy clothes or get plastic surgery just to look that way. I believe in inner beuty because i do not judge people on the way they look.
The T.V. commercials affect kids by telling them what's hot and whats not. Of course it will affect some kids' self-esteem and confidence, but the worst case scenario would be if the kids try to change their appearance in a dramatic way. (i.e., cosmetic surgery, eating disorders) I tend to not pay attention to comercials like that. It's easy; I don't watch too much T.V.
I feel the same way Jeneen feels because i know a few people who have been affected by the media. When life gets tough we have to step in and be proud in who we are not for what we wear or for being "perfect".
i think that these commercials affect the kids because the kids may think that they are to fat or too skinny and they try to be like the people they idol or see on the commercials. Also this can also make the kids think that no-one likes them and may cause the child/children to commit suicide. This also breaks friendships and makes new ones.
I think that commercials advertising kids apperance is not a bad thing because it helps them find legit stores to shop at and improve their steez, but it can also mislead children into buying terrible looking clothes and push them to wear epic fail clothes that are just a part of terrible style fads.
I agree with all the posts because people shouldn't have to try to be someone there not.
