Day 7 Blog
After reading last day's posts, some good relationships were made between playing video games and an addiction to speed. Obviously the physical signs and symptoms are not the same, but some of you could relate to the "addiction" as well as the "good feeling" you get while playing the games. Consider this: "Cyberaddiction is developed through the use of the computer. Let's specify that it is not the computer we are addicted to; rather we are addicted to the experience we have because of the machine...In the same way drugs and alcohol can be , the computer becomes a way to escape reality, deny problems, or forget about them by devoting time to something else." (Jean-Pierre Rochon, Internet Addiction psychologist). Comment on this psychologist's research.

I would beleive that this is true, because i play video games. Not a whole lot but a decent amount, enough to know what he is talking about.
I believe this is true because when i get upset or if i'm mad at someone i go on the computer to play games or something like that and it helps me calm down.
I think it is intereting that you are addicted to the things you do on the computer, other than the computer itself.
i think it is a good that you are addicted to things you like to do on computers. It is a waste of time but it helps kids not to be bored.
I think it's good that someone decided to do a study on something like this. I also think it's interesting because they did realize how an addiction to a videogame or computer is similar to the addiction to drugs.
When I am on the computer I dont feel like I am escaping reality but this could be different for different people.
I guess that when you play games on your computer your brain produces dopamine so your brain can react faster to the game from the game. Even though you dont get high from a computer you do produce dapamine which is related to getting high.
I think that the psycologists research is completely true to me because when i get on facebook i can just talk to people on other parts of canada that dont know about my problems and i can just talk to them.
I think the internet psychologist is correct about this statement. I see lots of kids who start playing computer games and can never stop. The kids that I see get addicted to computers are the ones that get bullied or have issues at school. They use the computer to get away from there problems and after they get addicted they can almost never go back to normal.
I think the psychologist is right. We do immerse ourselves in computers, and other forms of media. But, I think it doesn’t affect people as much as he says it does, although it affects people, I don’t think it becomes an addiction for most people.
Yes, thats a fair comment. Some people use the computer to escape reality just like drugs and alchol.
Yes, this is true you are not addicted to the actually computer you are addicted to the game that you are playing, if you are winning then you never want to stop until you win the game.
Yeah i agree that vido games are fun, addicting and competting. Speed is a drug that is also addicting, and people think it is fun or eles they wouldnt do it. But vido games are alot safer and more fun so in a way they are simmaler but ther are more differances then similaritys
I believe that quote can be true in some cases, like when people go on Myspace, chatrooms, online RPGS, or dating sites, they can be who ever they want. People can spend hours on their computer with out having to have a conversation with a real human being face-to-face, so it'd be easy to escape reality.
I think people do use the web to deny problems and stuff like that.
I dont think using a computer or a video game is like using drugs like speed it is way different.
I agree that the computer becomes a way to escape reality and problems other people might have, but people also have to realize that their problems arent going to go away just sitting infront of the computer screen.
I realize that to some people, video games are an escape out of reality but just because of the feeling they get when they are playing the game.
Lots of people play games and most are playing them when they get bored and they are playing these games instead of doing other jobs. The people that play games all the time are adddicted and they get a feeling that they have to keep playing. It's like they get really hyper when playing a game. Theres almost the same effects with drugs, but they have long term damage.
I beliieve we are addicted to the things we can do on a computer and not addicted to the actual machine. Also that it does help to escape problems, escape reality, and to forget about everything like drugs do for some people.
I know that some people love to be on the computer but i think it is not possible to be addicted to the feeling they get from playing on the computer. In my oppinion While playing on the computer all of someones troubles will not magically dissapear. I realise that they can escape reality. But i think you could just stop playing on the computer whenever you want unlike if you were to stop using a drug.
I Think he could be right, but i think some of my ideas are right to so i think both of us could be right. I also think some other comments are good everyone did really good at this.
This comment makes some sense because people do get addicted to playing video games a lot but some don't. I still don't believe the dose part of it is true because you can't get high playing video games way too much. If you do play video games a lot then you might feel dizzy but i think that's about all it does to you.
Yes i think that speed and also video games are addictive but they can also not be. It depends on the person. You can get addicted to almost anything if you don't use it right. If you are addicted, getting help is the first step to overcoming it.
I think that addicted people thaT are addicted to games, are kids who dont got a life no friends and just sit in their basement all day and will grow up and live in their grandmas basement till they are 49.
The addiction to the machine seems right because we want to play on the computer or game console. We tend though too play a specific game that is addictive for us, so the main addiction is not the game console. This addiction can be used as a simile too taking drugs but only this way it's not as harmful.
i think that this is wrong because i don't know anyone who is addicted to the computer like drugs. i think its all wrong.
I think thats true because you can forget about all your problems and life. You can come addicted to the computer easily because your living another life.
They may have the same syptoms. You can get addicted to anything but, you can't get "high" off of a video game. Just because you are addicted to a video game doesn't mean your getting "high".
The addiction of video games is alot different because it doesn't harm your body even close to how drugs do. Video games will mostly just make you unfit but now the world of technology is getting better and we have active video games such as the nintendo wii. Doing drugs has alot more symptoms and it can ruin your life forever.
I think that the psychologist's research is right because when people have problems that they just want to forget about they use the computar to find something to do and then they forget about what happend.
I think that the psychologist is right some people cannot stop playing video games. Same with the computer people have to much fum on the computer and then they don't want to get off of the computer.
i agree with what u said
i think that this gut nows what is right because he is right some people can get addicted tot he computer pr even to video games, depends what kind of person you are.
I think psychologist research is wrong, video games are nothin alike drugs and alcohol, video games are not harmful to the body, maybe at a young age where you got killing going on but hey, who am i to judge. I play alot of video games, everyday, really cause i never got a whole lot to do,and theres nothing really wrong with me, you can still feel good, but not have the defects of drugs and alcohol.
Machines can make it seem like "an escape from reality" to some but differant to others. I beleive that you can get addicted to a machine, i have an experiance with it. Machines are like drugs and alcohol in a way but also very differant. Brain damage can come of the "real" addictions (drugs, alcohol, ect.) and not of a machine. Games can be fun but also a "waist of time".
it is not good to play video games because they can get very addicting. when you start playing them thats when you get hucked. a lot of people think this is not true but it is. so stop playing video games.
I say that the researcher is right if I am mad at someone for something or just having a bad day i like to go on the computer and ignore whats going on around me
I believe this is true because when i get upset or if i'm mad at someone i go on the computer to play games or something like that and it helps me calm down.
