Day 8 Blog
Comment on some of the following quotes regarding cell phone addictions:One in six young adults could be addicted to their mobile phones, research suggests. A study of the mobile phone use of more than 100 students showed a large proportion exhibited symptoms more usually associated with compulsive gamblers. Many were so attached to their mobile that they relied on it to lift their mood, resorted to lying about how much they used it and regularly borrowed money from friends and relatives to pay their bills. The symptoms could be even worse for younger teenagers than those studied. While most of us are "addicted" to our mobiles, apparently some have it so bad that they're receiving treatment. Two children (ages 12 an 13) were admitted to a mental health clinic to cure what's been labeled as cellphone addiction. From the Telegraph:They were brought in after spending an average of six hours a day on their phones, talking, texting or playing games.Their parents became concerned that the children, aged 12 and 13, were unable to carry out normal activities without their handsets. They were failing at school and deceiving relatives in an attempt to obtain more money for phone cards.According to the doctors on staff, it's the first time that a "specific" treatment has been used to cure mobile phone addiction. Then again, these are children who are 12 and 13. They seem a lot more like two kids distracted from their school work than strung-out junkies begging for quarters at the side of the road so that they can get their next fix."They both showed disturbed behaviour and this exhibited itself in failure at school. They both had serious difficulties leading normal lives."Both children had had their own phones for 18 months and were not controlled by their parents."One paid for their phone by getting money from the grandmother and other family members, without explaining what they were going to do with it," said Dr Utgès.At least two cases of phone addiction have been reported in Britain where young people who were obsessed with their phones and became depressed when the number of incoming calls or messages dropped.Comment on your beliefs behind cell phone addictions.

Cell phones are very addictive I havent hade a cell phone long enough to get addicted but I know tons of people are. Cell phones are easily in some cases the most relied on thing for teenagers. I have a cell phone but I use it only for texting and nothing more but that doesnt matter people can get hooked on just texting ang never quit. Thats my opinion on cell phone addiction.
I believe that if you use your cell phone enough to get addicted in the first place, you obviously either have a busy life, or already have a problem. If you can get addicted to using your cell phone, you can get addicted to basically anything. If people are so easily addicted to something, a change has to be made
I think some kids can be addicted to cell phones , but i don't think someone can actually be addicted to a cellular device . But i guess in some cases they can . I think people that are addicted they just don't get out much. Like if you hang with friends and go out places , who do you need to text your friends are right there. I think people who are lazy and don't get out have a much greater chance of being "addicted". I personally i'm not addicted to my cell phone. I get out , babysit , study hard for school . I personally hate texting , i rather wait till the next day to talk to someone or call them up on the phone. I few of my friendsare personally addicted to their cell phones , they take them everywhere , even in the middle of conversation they will pull them out. No matter where we go they have to have their cell phones.
I think people can become addicted to cellphones, but you have to make a limit for yourself, by having times when you shouldn't text people back, like when you are trying to go to sleep, or when its like before 8 am. I think the addiction come to people who get their cell phone at a younger age. I don't think i know anyone addicted to their cellphones, like people know when its the right or wrong time to text.
Because I do not have a cell phone i don't really understand how people can be addicted to one. I feel that their should be a cell phone ban for kids under a certain age. This could control cell phones being abused. To some people life without a cell phone would be like the end of world, but thats only because they don't understand when privlages are taken advantage of.
I use my cell phone a fair amount, and i am not addicted to using it. Alot of the time i don't even have it on.
I think cell phone addictions are weird because I have had my phone for about 2 years and i can live without my phone for 2 or 3 months when I don't want to buy a phone card. I think kids with cellphone addictions should stop using their phone as much and get more active. On a normal day i spend around 5 or 6 hours on my phone just texting. I think people should make their children and friends pay for their own phone bill so they are not so attached to their phone.
I think in school there is almost everybody that has a cellphone and most of them use it all the time. You can see people text in the hallway every day. I think that more people get addicted to texting every day and you can even see old people text too. I guess technology is growing every day and people use more often too. Even the people you wouldn't expect to use the kind of technology.
I think that cell phones are an addiction for some people because they depend and use them everyday. I think it's crazy how some people can be on their phones for 6 hours a day and the parents of the two children that are in the mental health clinic should control how much their children use their phones.
I think that cellphone addictions are all because of the parents because if the parents don't give rules out for the cellphones the kids are going to be using them 24/7 and that's what causes cellphone addiction
I think that cell phones can become addivtive to certain people and even more so, teenagers. People may become addicted to a cell phone because they are used to using it for everyday activities and society is full of cell phone users. I personally think that it would be easier to count how many people do not have a cell phone than those that do.
I have never heard of cell phone ediction. I barely use my cell phone. The only time I really use it is to talk to my brother or inform my parents on when to pick me up. I think it is pretty stupid for kids to spend all there time on a cell phone.
I have never heard of a cell phone addiction. I have witnessed people text alot but that is the same thing as being addicted to talking to someone. Texting is communicating and i cant see a big problem with it unless it is causing problems with school and actual "in person" conversations. I dont use my cell phone excesively, i make calls and send texts everyday but it is not something i rely on. although its nice to have. I guess some kids could get addicted to cell phones but rarely.
Hi Mrs. McBride. I find it hard to believe two kids ages 12 and 13 could become so addicted to their cell phones. I find it hard to believe anyone could become as addicted as you described in the paragraph. I wouldn't know that for sure though since I've never met or heard of anyone being that addicted to a cell phone until now. But I guess it could become possible, especially with kids or teenagers who don't pay for the bills. Because they wouldn't have to worry about the cost.
I think that the cell phone addictions in Britain were worse, becuase if they have lower than normal they get depressed. One day if they have a lot lower than normal they might get so depressed they might kill themselves. I use my cell phone but not enough that im addicted to it, sometimes if im writing in English I might put r instead of are.
I did not know there was such a thing as a cell phone addiction. I also didn't know there was a mental health clinic for that. I think it is stupid that people need there cell phones to keep happy.
That is a little weird. People becoming addicted to their cellphones sounds a little odd. Then again I have heard of people becoming addict to the smell of white out.
I have never heard of cell phone ediction. I barely use my cell phone. The only time I really use it is to talk to my brother or inform my parents on when to pick me up. I think it is pretty stupid for kids to spend all there time on a cell phone.
I think cell phone addiction is all based on how strick the parents of the addict are. Those 12 and 13 year old children with cell phones that are addicted should not have them at all or with restrictions. When I got my cell phone it was because I had good grades and was going out with friends alot. I needed the cell phone for my parents to call or know where I am. These kids that are failing school should just not have a cell phone because it is destracting them. At the very least children should have no texting enabled on there phone so their parents can reach them but they do not text friends for hours a day.
Personally I have never heard of a cell phone addiction. I have friends who are attached to their phones but not addicted. I think this is very bad that children are being put into rehab centres because of their addiction to their phones. This is showing us that society has officially become lazy. It seems like we have to text or call people to talk to them instead of just going to see them face to face. I think it's the parents fault for not noticing that their child was addicted to there cell phone and also at age 12 or 13 kids do not need a cell phone. I think parents need to monitor the use of their kids cell phone use.
Hey,i think that people should have cell phones at the age of 12 because they are a great source to contact somebody if need and to stay in contact with even just to have somebody to talk too.
Hi, I'm Kevin.
I think peple get more addicted to they mobile cell phone because the phones are more usefull than before, it has alot of features that we use and more programs,
such as you can read on your cell phone, listen to music, play music, watch movies ot navigation system , it even shows you the map.
I don't have a cell phone because I don't need it, but when i get older, I'm sure I will need it.
i think people have taken cell phones way to far. they rely on them and are adicted to texting and calling when it really doesn't even matter.
hi, i believe more and more people are so addicted with texting calling and gaming that nothing else around them matters. I believe that kids should be able to use phone for emergences but for that reason only, then when there like 14 they should be able to make there own descion about how to use there phone appropriatly
Children ages 12 and 13 should have cellphone but should have parental control. Saying this I mean that the parents should take it away if the child is being bad or any other, because people can get too addicted to them and it become a serious hazard.
Cell phone addictions are very real. That's why my parents don't allow us kids to have phones. Cell phones also can cause cancer. My 28 year old cousin just had brain surjury because he had a brain tumor. It was because he had a phone, and was using it constantly.
People who do have mobile phones can be addicted. I find that kind of silly, but some people are like that. I for one dont really care for technology, so i am not addicted. Through generations people are going to get alot more addicted so the law needs to set limits.
I believe there should be a certain age limit and responsilblity to have a cell phone. Kids ages 10-13 shouldn't have a cell phone because they are immature and not response to pay there own phone bill and handle people not texting or calling them. The parents should also know better if there child is responisbly or not.
lots of people are addicted to cell phones. They can never let it go. We just had a presentation having something doing with cellphones and driving. Many people have died texting and driving. At the start of the year it became illegal to do so.
i belive that cell phone addictions are there but are rare cases. i prerfer to talk to people face to face but if i cant i will phone them or text them. cell phone addictions could be stoped by just puting a limit on people but again i think they are rare cases.
Wow. That is crazy. I don't think that kids that young should have a cell phone because why would they need one at that age. To get addicted to your cell you can;t really have much of a life.
I think that people can controll themself's with personal handsets if they want to. Many people do over-use their handsets but in my mind they could easily stop. Children under twelve should not have handsets anyways because it isn't necessary.
I think that cell phone use amongst children and adults is getting out of control, and needs to be reduced. Proof of this is that they had to make a law forbidding people to use their cell phone in the car. I also think that the age of kids getting cell phones is way too young. Overall a cell phone is a priviledge, and if you abuse it there is lots of concequences.
I agree that mobiles are very useful. But I also feel that if they are not used properly or for what they were intended for, they can be a problem.
